Suryakumar’s Remarkable 83 Brings India Back into the Game

Team India appeared in rhythm in the third T20. The team landed with a changed strategy. A glimpse of this was seen in the Powerplay. Captain Pandya handed over Chahal in the third over itself, though India got their first wicket in the 8th over, but our spinners kept the Windies openers tied in the first 6 overs and the Caribbeans failed to get off to a quick start. Later on the innings of opener Brandon King and captain Powell, the team scored 150. Kuldeep bowled brilliantly in the middle overs and prevented the team from scoring big.

In response, Surya and Tilak’s innings made the target of 160 easy on the hard pitch of Providence Stadium and the Indian team won in the 18th over, although the team lost their openers for 34 runs. Debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal could not make an impact and Gill also flopped. In such a situation, the middle order took the responsibility of scoring runs.

Chasing the target of 160 runs, the Indian team lost the wickets of the openers for 34 runs. Debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill had returned to the pavilion for 6 runs. In such a situation, Suryakumar Yadav added 87 runs on 51 balls for the third wicket with Tilak Verma. On the basis of this partnership, the Indian team returned to the match, by the time Surya was dismissed in the 13th over, Team India had moved towards victory by scoring 121 runs.

Suryakumar walked out to bat on the fifth ball of the first over after debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal miscued a big shot across the line on a slower ball from Obed McCoy. Suryakumar straightaway laid down his murderous intention for the evening by whipping the first ball he faced for a four over mid-wicket and then followed it up with a pull over square leg for a six. He then went down on one knee against Akeal Hosein, shaping up to play a sweep but instead sliced it over point.

Team India made two changes. Yashasvi Jaiswal was brought in place of opener Ishan Kishan. He landed to play the debut match. Jaiswal became the 105th International T20 player. Also, Kuldeep Yadav returned from injury. He was brought back into the team in place of Ravi Bishnoi.

West Indies fast bowler Jason Holder could not play due to an angle injury and was replaced by Roston Chase.

Captain Hardik Pandya gave the Indian team a 7-wicket victory by scoring a six on the lines of MS Dhoni, but this six took away the chance of young batsman Tilak Verma to score a fifty in the second consecutive match.

When Pandya hit a six, India needed two runs to win and Verma was unbeaten on 49. Tilak made his debut in this series and also scored a half-century in the last match.

Earlier, the start of the match at Guyana’s Providence Stadium was delayed as the 30 yard circle had not yet been marked when the players took the field.
